Purpose of Physical Education
Physical education plays an essential role in creating a well-rounded school experience. Consistent physical activity supports both physical and mental well-being, and research increasingly shows a positive connection between movement and academic achievement. Introducing healthy exercise habits in the primary years helps students build the foundation for an active, balanced lifestyle as they grow.
What will students learn?
Physical education encourages learning through movement and movement through learning. Students develop their abilities through a range of age-appropriate activities. Working both independently and as part of a team, students will:
-
Build confidence by moving with greater control, coordination, and variety -
Participate safely and respectfully, showing responsibility and cooperation -
Strengthen transferable skills that support physical, cognitive, and social development, becoming thoughtful, independent, and reflective learners through movement
-
Develop an understanding of rules, strategies, tactics, and creative movement concepts -
Gain an appreciation of how physical activity supports a healthy, active lifestyle
