UIA Annual Donation Campaign
- Date May 8, 2023
Today we focus on elements of our core values. We are always looking to Unite our community and share our experiences, so as to Inspire us to be socially responsible.
In March this year Malawi was hit twice by Cyclone Freddie. This left a devastated 500 000 people without shelter. Nearly 500 people lost their lives. The country continues to be in ruins. Through a chance meeting the school was made aware that the Malawian embassy here in Tokyo had a cyclone relief drive going. Given the surplus of Lost and Found not claimed and other items such as old uniforms and field tents sitting in storage, the school reached out to the embassy. They gratefully accepted our offer of donations.
On Monday morning, Eliana, Shorya, Anannya (student council) Ms Hitomi (HR), Mr Yokokawa (bus) and Mr Taylor headed to the embassy. We were introduced to Kwacha Chisiza (Malawi Ambassador to Japan). The students then presented the donations from the school to the embassy. These were gratefully received.
The school will continue to maintain links with the embassy and look to develop other opportunities to support each other.
