🟦 Position Objective

The Secondary Principal fosters an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum and the Cambridge Learner Attributes — developing students who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative, and engaged learners.

This senior leadership position provides strategic, academic, and pastoral leadership across the secondary school. This role ensures high standards of teaching and learning, student wellbeing, and programme coherence aligned with the Cambridge curriculum and the UIA guiding statements.

The Secondary Principal supports the Head of School, leads faculty, drives school improvement, and fosters a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment.

🟦 Position Profile

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of the Secondary School in alignment with policies, Cambridge expectations, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Lead and support secondary teachers in curriculum planning, assessment, instruction, and professional growth.
  • Oversee student behaviour expectations, discipline, and restorative processes to ensure a positive learning culture.
  • Support the Head of School in whole-school strategic initiatives, accreditation processes, and community engagement.

🟦 Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education (or equivalent).
    • Recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed., M.Ed., or equivalent).
    • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in an international or comparable educational setting.
    • Demonstrated excellence in communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Proven ability in ongoing school improvement, leading diverse teams, managing challenges constructively, and making informed decisions.

    Preferred

    • Experience in Cambridge International or international education
    • Familiarity with Cambridge online platforms, FARIA products, Google Workspace, and digital learning platforms.
    • Experience working across multiple campuses.
    Experience in whole school accreditation.

🟦 Key Responsibilities

Academic and Pastoral Support

  • Monitor student progress and lead interventions for academic, behavioural, and emotional concerns.
  • Identify and support students requiring academic, emotional, or motivational guidance related to future planning.
  • Promote growth-oriented and realistic goal-setting through structured student meetings and mentorship.
  • Oversee advisory, wellbeing, and safeguarding programmes aligned with Cambridge Learner Attributes.
  • Collaborate with the University and Career Counsellor to ensure smooth transitions to tertiary pathways.
  • Manage UIA scholarship applications.

Program Development

Lead continuous improvement of the secondary curriculum, ensuring alignment with Cambridge standards and best practices.

  • Develop new academic and co-curricular initiatives that support student wellbeing, leadership, and achievement.
  • Develop a culture of ongoing professional development
  • Strengthen quality assurance through teacher observation, coaching, and professional development.
  • Contribute to whole-school policies, handbooks, and operational procedures.

Promote the integration of educational technology and digital tools for learning. 

Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate academic records, attendance data, and internal assessments.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of student achievement data to inform school improvement.
  • Support tracking of university applications, offers, and matriculation outcomes in cooperation with guidance staff.

Ensure timely reporting and documentation for Cambridge, internal assessments, and school leadership.

School Representation and Communication

  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and external partners.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, curriculum changes, behaviour concerns, and school initiatives.
  • Represent the Secondary School at events, conferences, workshops, and community engagements.

Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, transparency, and service.

SOCIAL MEDIA

I hereby agree to permit UIA International School of Tokyo to take photographs of my child during school activities for the purpose of educating students, promoting the school, or promoting public education. The school may publish photographs of my child and/or samples of work done by my child in a variety of ways. The publications could include, but are not limited to, school newsletters (online and in hard copy), UIA International School of Tokyo’s Internet and Intranet websites, content-sharing websites such as Facebook or YouTube, annual school magazines and local newspapers. Published photographs and work will be viewable by third parties.

We agree to the following:

      1. The school may publish photographs of my child and samples of my child’s work as many times as it needs in the ways mentioned above.

      2. The child’s photograph may be reproduced either in color or in black and white.

      3. The school will not use my child’s photograph or samples of my child’s work for any purpose other than for the education of students or for the general promotion of public education and the school.

Any photographs taken by the school will be kept for no longer than is necessary for the above-mentioned purposes and will be stored and disposed of securely. Whilst every effort will be made to protect the identity of my child, UIA International School of Tokyo cannot guarantee that my child will not be able to be identified from the photograph or work.

BUS INFORMATION

Parents are not allowed inside the school buses.

For Early Years students, parents/legal guardians MUST be at the bus stop wearing the lanyard for pick-up and drop.

If a parent/guardian is not present at the bus stop at the scheduled time for the bus arrival, the student cannot get off the bus. We will wait for 1 minute and try to contact parents. After that, we will bring the child back to Kiba campus.

Parents/Guardians will be notified and are required to visit the Kiba campus to pick up their child. In such a scenario, a penalty will be charged to the parents at the hourly rate of ¥11,000.

UIA will consider adding a new stop for students from Early Years to Grade 2 in the area of the existing routes.

The school bus may arrive earlier or later than the scheduled time, depending on traffic conditions. If the bus arrives early, they will wait until the scheduled departure time. If the bus does not arrive at the bus stop within 20 minutes after the scheduled arrival time, please contact 080-1187-9407.

Parents should report to the 3F to drop off or pick up their child.

If you want to cancel the bus service for the day, kindly inform us well in advance

INVOICE INFORMATION

Payment will need to be made within five business days of the invoice being dispatched.

Please kindly note that once the payment is made, no refund will be provided.

The two-weeks discount is only applicable for parents enrolling for Week 1 + Week 2 at the time of application. In case a student adds Week 2 after enrolling in Week 1, the two-weeks discount will not be applicable.

Please note that the final deadline of payment is July 7, 2025 by 3PM

Enrollment will be automatically cancelled after those dates if payment has not been made.
