IIMUN @ IISJ 2023
- Date December 4, 2023
Greetings UIA!
I am Tuhina Dimri, secretary of the MUN club and I hope everyone is having a splendid day! As many of you know, our MUN Team had attended the I.I.M.U.N, India’s International Movement to Unite Nations, last weekend and it is my pleasure to share our experience and gave an insight into what it was like to those who are wondering whether to attend next year’s chapter or not! Before I continue, I would like to take this opportunity to praise all those who worked so hard for this conference! Whether you won an award or not, giving your best and learning from this experience is what truly matters. Without further ado, here are the names of the attendees:
- Tuhina Dimri
- Hinano Uehara
- Revanth Sainath Killamsetty
- Netanel Blessing Jebaraj
- Atharva Pandey
- Shorya Veer Manhas

Now, let’s recap. On the first day (Friday), I.I.M.U.N held their opening ceremony in IISJ. To start off with, they played the Indian and Japanese national anthem, followed by a traditional ‘Dia lighting’ by the director of IISJ and I.I.M.U.N’s Charge d’Affaires. Then, a group of Japanese women performed a traditional dance of India called Bharatnatyam. After that, a representative from I.I.M.U.N gave a speech, encouraging all delegates, which was later followed by another group dance by the dance group Monika, where they performed North Indian dances. To close the ceremony, we were given a speech by a special guest, Bertie Ahern, former prime minister of Ireland and a speech by Yogendra Puranik, Japan’s first non-Japanese Asian politician! While all these speeches and dances were truly beautiful to see, we noticed that some aspects of the ceremony could have had some improvement in terms of organisation.
Day 2 was a well awaited day; The start of committee sessions. To energise everyone before a long day of debating, we had a yoga session. Committee session 1 started at 9:00 and was 3 hours long. We were not accustomed to this unusual length of a committee session. The following committee sessions and high tea break. Finally came what all delegates were waiting for so eagerly; the Social Event, including a personal DJ! Everyone was having so much fun that everyone picked up Savir, one of our own delegates and threw him in the air multiple times.
Finally, the last day of the conference approached. Day 3 started directly with the committee sessions. Then came our final committee session, our last shot at winning and then the awards ceremony. It started off similarly to the opening ceremony, with dances and speeches, but then came the most eager moment; announcing the winner, and it is with great pleasure that I can say that most of the winners were from UIA! The following is a list of them:
- Tuhina Dimri: Best Delegate
- Hinano Uehara Verbal Commendation
- Revanth Sainath Killamsetty: Verbal Commendation
- Netanel Blessing Jebaraj: Special Mention
- Atharva Pandey: Special Mention
- Shorya Veer Manhas: High Commendation
- Praneel Chakraborty: High Commendation
Congratulations all! Though we majority of the winners were from UIA, unfortunately we didn’t win the Best delegation award. However, let’s not lose hope! With the help of new delegates, next time we are surely to win the best delegation award.
This MUN was truly a different experience. We are looking forward to the next MUN events such as the JMMUN and TJMUN! UIA has previously attended JMMUN twice and our delegates have won awards both times and has been a good experience for all, beginner or advanced, so if you are interested in trying out MUN, this is a great opportunity!
