Field trip to the Tokyo Toy Museum
- Date June 1, 2023
In history class, we have been learning about old toys, new toys, and how and why toys have changed. Learning about toys is fun but it is difficult to learn about old toys when most of the children have not seen any. So we took the G1 classes to the Tokyo Toy museum.
We talked about rocking horses in class. At the museum we saw a real one! We could see it was made of wood and had real horse hair for its mane and tail, just like we learned. We got to play with games and toys from all over the world. The museum staff showed us how to play traditional games and modern games too. We saw so many old clay, wooden and metal toys.
In one area, we saw 3 kinds of spinning tops, old metal ones, wooden ones and a newer plastic one. We realised some old toys are still popular today even though they may look different. Our visit to the toy museum was amazing. One student even declared it to be “the best day ever, Ms Parkin ”.
