Harvard Model United Nations 2023 Wrap-Up
- Date February 10, 2023
After an extraordinary week in the United States, the MUN team has safely returned to Tokyo and is finally recovering from jet lag.
They kicked off the first day of their trip with campus tours of both Harvard and MIT.
The next day, Harvard MUN 2023 officially commenced.
The conference lasted four days and consisted of non-stop lobbying, negotiating, speech-making, researching, and writing. Almost 4,000 students from over 40 different countries participated.
After the Harvard MUN closing ceremony, the team took the Amtrak to New York City and spent the evening exploring Times Square.
The next day, the students toured the United Nations Headquarters and were able to witness a live meeting of international diplomats.
They also got to step inside the meeting rooms of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
In the afternoon, the students joined campus tours of NYU and Columbia University.
On the final day of the trip, the students took a ferry to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty.
Upon returning to Manhattan, they visited Wall Street and the 9/11 Memorial.
The next morning, as they were leaving for the flight back to Tokyo, it started to snow. Luckily, there were no airport delays, and everyone made it back on time.
Now begins the process of preparing for Harvard MUN 2024. Students who will be in Grade 9 or higher and are interested in joining can speak with Mr. Lucy (lindell.lucy@uia.jp). In order to be eligible for the Harvard MUN 2024 trip, students must first gain experience by participating in other MUN conferences during the 2023 school year. The next conferences will be JMMUN in Tokyo (Mar 25-26) and JEMUN in Osaka (July 15-17).
